Dagny Fletcher

The Warrior of Light.

🙐 One half of Hydaelyn's Chosen, Dagny Fletcher is not the type one would expect to carry the title of Warrior of Light. While her Companion P'iuma Tia has the bright personality and physical fortitude of a traditional hero, she is the quieter heroine of the Seventh Astral Era. Nonetheless, her beginning as the triumphant, lone combatant against the Primal Ifrit quickly set her upon the path of legend.A magical prodigy, Dagny is best known for her unique applications of arcanima, conjury, and astrology. Beyond that, she was at the forefront of field-study research that led to restoring the lost art of summoning, and has unique mastery of the emotional torrent known as the Abyss. While her magical skill is without parallel thanks to her vast quantities of aether, her education actually lies in alchemy, traditionally in Hannish style.Though the name that she is known by through history is decidedly Eorzean Hyuran, scholars know that this is a red herring, a name decided for herself when she arrived on the shores of Vylbrand in 1577. Born Meira Ayari-Bhandari, the auri woman is in actuality Half-Hannish, Half-Dalmascan, daughter of one of the richest merchant families in Thavnair.Enclosed in these pages are all that there is to know about her: her struggles, triumphs, joys, and even darkest secrets.

This page is forever a work in progress and being continuously updated.

appearance.

Small even by auri standards, Dagny stands at 4fms, 9im in height. Her skin is a medium brown color with freckles across her cheeks and shoulders and relatively unblemished save for a scar down her back from her first encounter with Zenos viator Galvus. With very little muscle tone in general, her skin is very soft, in part thanks to rigorous self-hygiene routines. Being a raen, she has bone-white scales on her body, with her horns in a fish fin shape. Dagny’s tail is forked and short while also somewhat thick. It is often flicking this way and that, an easy indicator for those that know her well what she might be thinking or what her mood is.Dagny’s hair is a deep purple color and is naturally wavy, especially when kept in longer lengths. It's texture would be best described as feathery. Sometimes it is treated with alchemical solutions to straighten it. It is often accessorized originally with a flower and then, as she grows older, a ribbon–starting with a red one gifted to her by Alisaie. Her eyes are a light golden color with bright yellow limbal rings, which stand out even more thanks to her habitual heavy application of eyeliner and eyeshadow. Dagny is also fond of wearing dark colored lipstick, along with painting her nails, usually in colors to match her outfits. Her sense of fashion drifts unusually towards elegance for an adventurer, and Dagny largely prefers skirts to pants. Black is easily the most common color in her wardrobe, though she was known for a bright, hooded white robe during her early days as the Warrior of Light. In addition, she gravitates towards fabrics that are deep shades of red, purple, and blue, though she will wear other colors when the mood strikes her. A large linkpearl hangs behind her left horn in a moonlet earring style. After the defeat of Endsinger and bringing peace to Etheriys, her eyesight has taken a slight turn for the worse. Dagny can sometimes be found wearing glasses for reading, though she feels that claims from others that she needs them are exaggerated.

personality.

One of the most commonly said facts about the Warrior of Light is that she is a woman of few words, which is largely true. Dagny is not one for attention or the limelight, and it is natural for her to let the Companion of Light, P’iuma, take the stage when appropriate. Her expression is usually impassive and unreadable, with her eyes, eyebrows and tail being the easiest indicator for her emotions to the close observer. Having to overcome shyness, Dagny grows into her role as Warrior of Light over time and manages to find her voice when it matters. On matters where she holds opinions, they are strong and often unmovable unless considerable evidence and reason are given to the opposing view. When proven wrong, she will either pretend that she wasn’t or admit it with reluctance. A matter that she seems to always hold a passionate view on is politics, though in the same breath Dagny will claim disdain for it.Those that are close to her will find Dagny to be more talkative with a quick wit if she is comfortable with them. However, this wit can be taken too far and occasionally turn scathing to those that hold her scorn. The Warrior of Light’s mind is like a steel trap, in part thanks to her echo, and she remembers events and words spoken so rawly and vividly that they can easily be replayed in Dagny’s head. This perfect memory can lead to pettiness and grudges that once set upon can be hard to break down. When brought to her senses, she will often be overwhelmingly apologetic with acts of attention and service to try and make up for her biting words.Dagny is naturally intelligent and knowledge hungry, especially adept in scientific and theoretical subjects. She picks up concepts and advanced mathematics quickly, which made her a stellar student as a child into her teen years. Growing up in Radz-at-Han helped her become a highly accomplished student of Hannish alchemy. Because so much came easily to her as a child, she does lose motivation and quickly give up when Dagny finds that she is not adept at something right away. In addition, the crushing expectations of her grandfather has caused Dagny to have a disgust for formal education that is similar to her dislike for politics. Much of what she has learned since leaving home at the age of sixteen was self-taught, though she views Urianger as a mentor. With a love of books, Dagny is a romantic and idealist at heart, though she does her best to hide this from others. A compulsion for juggling crushes directed towards light-haired, intelligent women upon first joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn mellowed out as she grew older and closer to Alisaie. She views her role as the Warrior of Light with the utmost importance and tries to fulfill the role of hero that others expect. In fact, the name Dagny adopted upon arriving in Eorzea was stolen from a heroine in one of her favorite novels. Her desire to be a hero and live up to these standards have caused her to have an impulsive streak, often charging into battle without consulting others or acting recklessly and past her limits. Luck is on her side with most of these hasty acts of heroism, as fitting for the Warrior of Light. When not overwhelming herself with responsibilities–for she feels nervous if she is not doing something–Dagny enjoys days where she can sleep in, brew a cup of strong tea or coffee, and read a good book on her ever growing ‘to read’ pile.

echo.

Dagny obtained her echo at the earliest known age in history, being at the age of three summers. Like most with the echo, she has the ability to dive into others' memories and understand languages perfectly. Dagny also has the easy habit of speaking any language she wishes, though it does take time for her to gain the nuisances. As a child in Eorzea, she often helped her family with translations when dealing in business with merchants or speaking with locals. The other aspect of her echo is her perfect memory. It is somewhat selective, and Dagny has to focus on what she wishes to remember, but she can recite entire books that she enjoys if given the opportunity. This has made it easy for her to pick up advanced concepts, like Summoning, without much effort.

aether.

Dagny has been described as an aether sponge (somewhat jokingly) by her fellow scions. Her encounters with the primals Ifrit, Garuda and Titan made her absorb vast quantities of their aether. After defeating Bahamut Prime in his Binding Coils, she also absorbed his aether. These vast reserves of aether make her appear very bright to those that see aether--a bright collection of colors reflecting the various elements. A handful of times she has used these pools of aether for powerful attacks--the most widely known example being using her collection of Bahamut's aether to defeat Nidhogg at the end of the Dragonsong War. Because she has grown so used to having such vast quantities of aether, however, when she does these attacks she suffers bouts of aether sickness after.

voice claim.

"They're also quite useful as ingredients for a variety of things."

stats.

Strength
★☆☆☆☆

A lifetime of privilege has left Dagny relatively pampered with very little labor experience. This has thus translated into a lack of strength that has barely improved since becoming the Warrior of Light, even with P'iuma's best attempts.

Dexterity
★★☆☆☆

Dagny's dexterity has gotten somewhat better thanks to her Red Mage training with a rapier, though she is still somewhat clumsy at times.

Constitution
★☆☆☆☆

Best described as a glass cannon, Dagny is extremely fragile with little stamina. Running up several flights of stairs can leave her winded, and she will oftentimes rely on P'iuma carrying her around (piggy-back or princess style) when she's tired.

Intelligence
★★★★★

Thirsty for any type of knowledge and picking up any book she can get her hands on, Dagny is extremely intelligent.

Wisdom
★★★☆☆

When her biases are not in the way, Dagny has amazing foresight. She is able to look at situations far ahead, objectively, and weigh all points of view. However, her emotions are prone to clouding her judgement.

Charisma
★★★☆☆

A quick wit when her mouth is open, a unique grace when she is silent. Perhaps it is just natural aura of the Warrior of Light, but many are drawn to Dagny, and most would claim that she is a good listener, to her confused surprise.

Willpower
★★★★★

(Highly variable) Most of Dagny's impressive feats of strength or endurance are based off of her sheer willpower, or better known as her stubbornness. Because of this, she is prone to collapsing after long battles.

Perception
★★★★★

Dagny is remarkably adept at perceiving another's intent and motive, or when someone is hiding something from her. Even though her perception is relatively strong, sometimes it can be warped by assuming the worst of one's intentions.

Luck
★★★★★

There is no denying that the Warrior of Light has unheard of luck, and those that accompany her usually benefit from it.

family.

Dagny’s name upon birth was Meira Ayari-Bhandari. The surprise second child of a marriage between a Dalmascan man and Hannish woman, she was given both of her parents surnames due to the fact that her mother had high standing in Hannish society. The Ayari name was one of little renown in Dalmasca. A surname typically associated with miners in the Dalmascan desert, Dagny can trace her ancestry on her father’s side to the village of Gollund, known for its coal mines. The Bhandari name, in contrast, has a long history in Thavnair. One of the original families during the founding of Radz-at-Han in eras before, what it lacks in political power is easily made up by its trade in spices, tea leaves, coffee beans and other items. The Bhandari Consortia has spent a majority of the last two centuries slowly absorbing other businesses to diversify its catalog, either through marriages or outright purchases. Because of this, what was originally only an auri line now has significant hyuran heritage, along with sparse traces of the other races found in Etheriys. In addition, its willingness to work with the rapidly expanding Garlemald Empire during its early years of conquest proved beneficial. While elderly Rakesh Bhandari sits as its head in name, he has left the management of the Consortia to his many children and grandchildren, though he is willing to give advice or direction when needed.

Soheil Ayari.

Born to an ailing, widowed mother in the Dalmascan desert, Soheil was raised by the entire village of Gollund after his mother passed away from heartbreak when he was mere hours old. This did not dissuade the youth, however. Despite his weak constitution, Soheil vowed to make a name for himself, and taught himself to read and write Dalmascan from whatever book was scattered throughout the impoverished homes of Gollund. In his teens, he hopped onto the back of a chocobo carriage and arrived in Rabanastre. Taken under the wing of an ore merchant with close ties to the Garlean Empire, Soheil soon became a respectable merchant, known for his calm manner, soft voice, and masterful skill with language to secure a deal. While not a full partner of his mentor’s business, he was trusted to travel as his representative in Thavnair on many occasions, eventually crossing paths with the infamous Mayin Bhandari. He fell in love instantly. Despite the warnings from his associates, the morning following their meeting as a social party, the usually mild, soft-spoken Soheil appeared in front of the Bhandari residence, with a bouquet overflowing in Thavnairian Jasmine and Dalmascan Rose flowers. Bemused by the mysterious, mild-mannered Dalmascan, Mayin entertained his desire for courting. They were married with her father’s blessing six moons later.Soheil received some financial support from his father in law, Rakesh, enabling him to begin his own gemstone and goldsmithing business in Rabanastre. Often selling luxuries to Garlean expats, he found great success, using much of the profits in spoiling his wife, eldest daughter, and years later, their youngest, Meira. This along with Mayin’s reputation for dancing caused the Ayari-Bhandari family to be invited to a state dinner for visiting emperor Solus zos Galvus. That chance meeting unfortunately seemed to have sealed his entire family’s fate. Within a handful weeks, Soheil and Mayin were murdered trying to leave Rabanastre with their daughters, their hands mere ilms apart.

Mayin Bhandari.

The youngest of seven children, Mayin Bhandari was the favorite of her father, Rakesh. Naturally graceful from youth, she became well known throughout Thavnair for her dancing, and later for her stubborn, outspoken, impossible to please nature. Many tried to garner Mayin's favor once she became of marrying age, in thanks to her beauty and her family, but a promise that Rakesh made to Mayin necessitated that his daughter had to approve of the match. It was the soft spoken trader Soheil that eventually convinced the independent Mayin to marry, though she insisted it was certainly not ‘settling down’. Joining her husband in his native Dalmasca, Mayin became his equal in business, and once again developed a reputation as a beautiful dancer within the walls of occupied Rabanastre.Their marriage was a happy one, having one child in the early years, a daughter named Lidor who inherited much of her spirit and passion for dancing. Fifteen years later, after accepting that she was fated to only have one child, she and Soheil were surprised with a second pregnancy. They named their second daughter Meira, an old Dalmascan name meaning ‘giving light’.Unfortunately, like her husband, Mayin perished in an attack by members of the IVth Legion outside of the city gates of Dalmasca. Their deaths were mandated by the hands of Emperor Solus zos Galvus himself, though the reason as to why was never ascertained until years later.

Lidor Ayari-Bhandari.

Assumed dead following her parents murder, Lidor was a seldom spoken of mark on the tragedy that befell the Bhandari family in 1563. Much like her mother in personality and talent, Lidor had arrangements to become an apprentice under a famous Hannish dancing troupe, Troupe Falsim after her family completed their hastily planned move to her mother’s homeland. However, instead of finding the end of a Garlean bayonet in her stomach, she was subdued and imprisoned by the IVth Legion. After weeks of starvation and physical abuse, Legatus Noah van Gabranth appeared in Lidor’s cell with an offer: serve under the IVth legion, be forgiven for her family’s crimes (she did not know what these crimes were, for her family had always been loyal to Garlemald in her eyes), and forge a new path–her own. She agreed.Hardened by the loss of her family, Lidor became a woman of few words. She took up twin blades, learning how to wield them from a fellow IVth legion member from Yanxia. Lidor soon became a well respected runner for the IVth’s spy network, traveling quickly between cities to deliver classified documents or complete discreet assassinations. Two decades later, thanks to the rapidly deteriorating situation for the Garlean Empire, Lidor found herself on the front lines for the first time, assisting in attempted subjugation of the Bozjan resistance on the southern front. Little did she know that the past that she had locked away in her heart, that she swore to never speak of again, would return with their own sword to forge from those bitter memories.

Rakesh Bhandari.

Rakesh Bhandari, the head of the illustrious Bhandari family, is a man of strict discipline and expectation. That expectation fell heavily on the shoulders of his granddaughter Meira, who he viewed as the sole remnant of his beloved daughter, Mayin. All in the Bhandari family knew that the patriarch played favorites, and it was of little surprise that young Meira with her quick wit soon became his. Rakesh marveled at Meira’s youthful intelligence, and speculated that mayhap his granddaughter had been blessed by Sister Cinduruva herself for her unexplained gift to understand all languages upon hearing them. However, even though Meira was gifted in any academic subject put in front of her, languages and alchemy especially, he bemoaned that his favorite granddaughter didn’t inherit her mother’s talent for dancing.Rakesh planned almost every aspect of Meira’s life, wanting to be sure that his beloved granddaughter lived up to every expectation afforded her. Upon turning sixteen, he quickly arranged a marriage between Meira and the heir of House Duuyal, seemingly disregarding the freedom he gave Mayin all those years ago in finding love. He also sent Meira to live on the other side of Radz-at-Han with a retired Sharlayan professor, Efianne Clauvatat, to supervise her preparations for the Sharalyan Studium’s entrance exam. This meticulously planned out life made Meira resent her family, both living, for the expectations set upon her, and dead, for being the standard of expectations.Rakesh did not fully comprehend the pressure that he put on his granddaughter until it was too late. One morning, Professor Muifoy arrived in a panic at his residence, proclaiming that Meira was missing. By sundown, it was ascertained that Meira had sold the prohibitively expensive engagement bracelet from her fiancé and used the funds to purchase passage to Limsa Lominsa. Instead of sending his trusted bodyguard after her, as expected, he ordered that a letter be written to his grandson residing in Ul’dah to warn of Meira’s possible arrival. He canceled Meira’s engagement and returned the dowry to House Dayaal, along with a convincing replica of the bracelet she had pawned off.In private, he voiced a hope that one day his granddaughter would return, so that he might apologize to her–well aware that he may never receive forgiveness, or even see her again.

Naemr Bhandari.

Naemr spent his early years in his cousin Meira’s shadow. Having lost his parents at a young age due to a disease that swept through Thavnair, he and his twin, Maren, came to live with his grandfather, Rakesh Bhandari. After living with Rakesh for a few months, another family member came to live with them, his younger cousin Meira. While it was a life of comfort, freedom and adventure, Naemr resented the fact that Meira was the perfect grandchild and he was but a mere afterthought. At the age of thirteen the Bhandari family temporarily moved to Limsa Lominsa for Rakesh’s health and to help manage a failing branch of the family business. Naemr was given relative free reign to do as he wished, and spent much of his time skulking the streets of the naval city state. Three years later, as the lesser moon Dalamud slowly descended upon Eorzea, Rakesh decided it was time to return to the family’s native Radz-at-Han. Naemr refused to leave, declaring that as he was sixteen summers, he was an adult, and had every right to stay. The disagreement between grandfather and grandson soon turned into a bitter shouting match, and Naemr stormed out with nothing but a sack of scarce belongings. Rakesh refused to chase after Naemr, stating, “If he is an adult, he is free to sign his own death certificate.”While the rest of his family returned to Radz-at-Han mere weeks before Dalamud fell and the wrath of Bahamut was unleashed upon Eorzea, Naemr witnessed it. He helped the Maelstrom evacuate citizens onto boats in Limsa Lominsa, so they might escape whatever remaining wrath would come after the initial attack. But there was none. Only silence. With few options in the destroyed city, Naemr soon found himself in Ul’dah, living on the streets. He quickly joined the Gladiatorial circuit to scrape by some gil, and caught the eye of Raubahn Aldynn after Naemr ruthlessly won the month’s cup. Intending to try and guide the young man and set him on a better path, he was introduced to the Sultansworn, and soon became a paladin serving the Sultana. But like so many others within Ul’dah’s gilded walls, Naemr fell to greed. He easily will turn a blind eye to corruption and crime within the city, as long as he is promised sufficient gil or spirits. A (barely) functioning alcoholic, he spends most of his paycheck on the finest selection of hard liquor, living in a barebones, filthy apartment near the Alchemist’s Guild. When his cousin Meira turned up on his doorstep, insisting at being called Dagny, terrified at the thought of their grandfather chasing after her and taking her back to Thavnair, he decided to not mention the letter from Rakesh that promised Meira all was forgiven and implored for her to return.Naemr now had a living predicament in his midst, however. He knew that his twin, Maren would never forgive him if he told Meira that she was on her own. But he had no desire to take her in, and also knew that caring for her was beyond his capabilities–financially and functionally. After some thought, he remembered that there was a collective of scholars working out of Vesper Bay on the lookout for those with special talents–and Meira, who understood any language spoken to her, seemed to fit the bill. That evening he took her to the headquarters of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. While the Antecedent, Minfilia, initially seemed skeptical, a quick glance over to Meira sitting nervously on the bench seemed to convince her. Meira was out of Naemr’s hair, and among bookish types who would be sure that no danger would befall her.

Maren Bhandari.

While her twin Naemr resented almost every aspect of their lives, Maren Bhandari tended to view life with a more optimistic perspective. Yes, her parents died when she was young to a terrible plague, and she and Naemr were often forgotten when standing next to their younger cousin, Meira, but she found this to be a benefit rather than a hindrance. Maren spent much of her time growing up learning all she could about machinery, and later, firearms. She knew that if her grandfather took further interest in her education, she would have probably been learning advanced alchemy alongside Meira for countless hours during the day. Instead, when she lived in Limsa Lominsa, she would make her way to Coral Tower and watch the Musketeer’s guild practice. During the days she was forced to stay inside due to rain, she would pester her grandfather’s bodyguard, Visil, for stories, or play with his gunblade–safety on, off course. The idea of freedom resonated so deeply with Maren that upon her return to Thavnair in her midteens, she began to work for the various resistance movements across Aldenard and Othard. Often working from parts of ruined magitek, she would cobble them back together into working firearms and sell them back to various freedom fighters. Over time, thanks to Visil, she became especially close to the Bozjan Resistance and eventually worked for them exclusively. When her grandfather found out about his granddaughter’s business ventures, he furiously disapproved, and stated that it was an easy way to get killed. It was Maren that helped Meira escape Thavnair in the dead of night after her cousin voiced a desire to leave. She arranged a buyer for the engagement bracelet, rode with Meira to Yehdlimad on chocobo–back, and saw the ship carrying her cousin to Eorzea disappear over the horizon as the sun rose behind her. When the truth came out over how Meira fled Radz-at-Han by sundown, Maren’s involvement was somehow not discovered. She was quick to offer to be the one that would write a letter to her twin, Naemr, about Meira’s possible arrival in Eorzea, but her grandfather refused her and left the task to the Bhandari’s personal governess, Yrun.

Visil Irinasch.

When Garlemald overtook the capital of Bozja, Visil quickly surrendered and swore allegiance to the Empire—all to protect his wife and three children. After having served over a decade for the empire, the promise of citizenship within his grasp, his family was killed in the Bozja Incident. The news of their deaths while he was stationed in Rabanastre disillusioned Visil, and he found little reason to live anymore. After several months of deliberation, the man planned his own death, intending to walk out of the city’s gates in civilian clothes and shoot himself in the head with his own gunblade somewhere in the vast desert.Had he left a few minutes before, he would have only lived two lives. But as Visil was going through customs to depart the city, yelling broke out behind him. In the chaos, he saw that IVth Legion soldiers were attempting to take a toddler from her mother. Visil tried to help de-escalate the situation, but soon gunfire broke out, and the toddler was shoved into his hands by a young woman that Visil later discovered was Lidor Bhandari with a pleading yell of “Take her!”. He ran away in the chaos, the parents of the small auri girl in her arms were already dead by the time he made it past the gates.Visil was unsure of what to do about the young girl that he now needed to protect. She spoke few words, but told him her name was Meira. Deciding to head south along the traderoads, it wasn’t until a few hours later that he found a folded up piece of paper in the pocket of her clothes with directions of what to do if the child was alone. That was the beginning of Visil’s new life. When he arrived weeks later in Radz-at-Han, he was rewarded generously, as promised. Rakesh seemed so impressed with Visil that he offered to employ him as a bodyguard, an offer that Visil originally refused, finding himself unworthy, and disclosing his past to Rakesh. Rakesh said quietly, after a pause, that he did not care. Visil brought the last remnant of his beloved daughter Mayin to him, and that was enough.Visil reluctantly agreed, and was made to promise to never bring up his past besides being from Bozja to anyone. Haunted with nightmares of those he failed to protect, even though there was no expectation of him to protect them, Visil went to the only Mist practitioner in Radz-at-Han to wipe the memories away. What he thought would be permanent he soon realized would need constant treatment, and he became reliant on the quiet, stern Yrun. It was a twisted desire of his when he mentioned Yrun to Rakesh, hoping that his master would hire her regularly so that it was easier to see her more often. He didn’t expect Yrun to become a live-in governess, but that made the desire to lock those memories away all the easier, and he did so, despite her warnings. If the memories came back in a rush of emotion, he would handle them then. They were only his and Yrun’s to witness, and he intended to never share the truths that laid within them.

Yrun Gehlyut.

The Vieran village of Gehlyut was the first to surrender to the Garleans when they arrived in the Golmore Jungle. It was a tactical decision from the village elders, believing that a peaceful surrender would spare the jungle from destruction. However, this decision backfired, and within hours both the village and surrounding jungle were destroyed. Because of this, viera that originate from Gehlyut often left the jungle and Dalmasca entirely in shame, or joined the ranks of the IVth legion.Yrun Gehlyut was considered young among viera when her village was set aflame. Gifted with what the village referred to as Mist, the ability to view another’s memories and even lock them away to be forgotten, she was in a position of honor that became meaningless. After fleeing the jungle, she arrived in Lea Monde in need of work. She soon became a Mist practitioner, helping those that struggled with their memories. When the Bozja Incident made relations in the region tense, however, she decided it was time to move once more and settled in Radz-at-Han. One of her first customers was the Hrothgar Visil, who wished to forget the tragedy that befell the family he served. Yrun warned that such strong, emotional memories would often reveal themselves again during periods of great distress, but the man did not care. She sealed the memory away for him temporarily, as promised, but he soon became a regular, asking for more memories, those of his own family, of the atrocities he committed, of the lives he destroyed to be buried away.Even though she knew that using Mist in such an overzealous way was unwise, Yrun agreed. In thanks for her work, Visil ended up mentioning Yrun in passing to his employer, one Rakesh Bhandari. Summoned to his residence, she assisted in reviving memories of his own, fond ones of the deceased daughter that Visil had failed to protect. After a brief discussion, Rakesh offered her a position as governess for his three young grandchildren. Yrun hesitated, stating that she did not know anything about teaching children, and Rakesh told her, “They are so young, they will not know the difference.”Even with her inexperience, Yrun was a stellar governess, and all three of her employer’s grandchildren, Naemr, Maren, and Meira were fond of her. She quickly caught onto Rakesh’s preference for Meira and tried to treat the children equally outside of education, but pushed Meira, rewarding her with teaching her healing magic when she did well. Much of what Yrun taught her she was learning at the same time, and in some bemusement, she felt that Meira was often the one teaching her.Along with teaching, she assisted Rakesh and Visil with their own memory needs, thanks to Mist. Visil soon needed daily treatments to prevent his memories from returning, for he insisted that it was easier to forget. She continued to warn him of the possible consequences, of the memories overflowing him at a moment of great distress, but Visil thought that would be a small price to pay.It wasn’t until Meira was sixteen when his memories broke free in a great burst of Mist and aether, surrounding her and Yrun as Visil scolded Meira and told his charge that it was best that she follow her grandfather’s wishes. When the Mist faded, and Yrun returned to the present, the look on Meira’s face told her all that she needed to know: somehow, the girl had seen all. The death of her parents, the time that Visil served under Garlemald, the promise of her grandfather to never divulge Visil’s past. When Meira fled Thavnair weeks later, Yrun knew this incident was the catalyst, the final ingredient in a hastily put together alchemical concoction. She did not tell Rakesh. She did not confront Visil. She only did as her employer wished, and wrote a letter to his estranged grandson.
